February Already?

Whew! A lot has happened since my last post.

I went away to work on the final draft of TOUGH CUSTOMER (Gotta love Dodge Hanley, warts and all!) While I was away from home all hell broke loose. The Dallas/Ft. Worth area got a foot of snow! A foot! Now, I know you Northerners are scoffing, but that’s more than has ever fallen in North Texas since they’ve been keeping records. It was a big deal. I was getting up-to-the-minute photo text messages from daughter Rachel, calls from friends, calls from my office staff (Can we go home early? If school is canceled, can we stay home?), calls from relatives in other parts of the country asking if we were okay. Meanwhile I was 1000 miles away in South Carolina! I hated missing this phenomenon, but it’s just as well I was gone. My house had no power for 48 hours. Tree branches, as big around as I am, were breaking off, falling on the house, in the street. The snow was pretty, but it was destructive. I returned today; my yard is being cleared; the damage is evident in the entire area.

To happier things — while in SC, Ryan came down for a few days of intensive writing on his second book. He and I have separate rooms in which we write. Some days we don’t even see each other until cocktail hour. Then we talk shop over dinner. But we did take one afternoon off to do a video interview together, which you’ll be able to watch on the website in a week or so. Check back daily. His first book PLAY DEAD comes out May 4th.

Thanks to those of you who have helped keep the reprint of EXCLUSIVE on the USA Today bestseller list for the past three weeks.

Stay warm. Tulips and forsythia can’t be too far off!

Since you were in South Carolina, you know we got some uncharacteristic snow also. I am in Columbia and we got 8.7″ (3rd largest on record). Fortunately, we had limited power outages and little damage because it was snow and not ice. I have beautiful pictures. My mothe who will soon be 84 is in end stage COPD. She loves snow and it was one of the prettiest I have ever seen. I was glad for her. As for me, I find it a nuisance and would be OK without it. Maybe I should live in Florida with my daughter although it has been unseasonably cold there.

Samdra, you are always with me. I constantly reading one of your books and average about 3 a month. I own them all. I am now reading CHILL FACTOR, just finished RICHOCHET & already have RAINWATER but have not read it yet. I will read EXCLUSIVE next.

A friend gave me HELLO DARKNESS when I was fighting cancer & in treatment. Although I was slow to read it, it gave me a means of escaping the misery I was going through with radiation and chemotherapy. By the Grace of God, I am cancer free now although I was only given a 50% or less chance of beating it. After reading HELLO DARKNESS (still at the top of my list) I was hooked on your writing and have shared you with friends hoping they will be as hooked as I am.

You will alwsys have a special place in my heart because you helped me escape when I needed it most.

    Thank you,

    Teresa Fraylick

While a long time reader I am a first time writer of a fan letter. ( Which is the extent of my writing skills) My favorite of your many books is Envy. I like happy endings and don’t really care for books set in the depression era. So I resisted reading Rainwater until last Sunday night. WOW. It touched my heartstrings like nothing I have read in a long while. I could see that story like no other book I have read in years.( and I have read alot of books in the last 40+ years) I found myself starting to cry at about page 130, not because of the content of the page so much, but you were warnings us which way this story was headed. There was nothing I could do but go along. I stayed up until after midnight on a work night and still the characters and story stay with me. I keep hugging my husband. He just hugs be back but I pretty sure he thinks the hormones are out of whack again.

    Thanks
I so envy you ability to paint word pictures.
