Iwo Jima 1
This photo of an unnamed Marine taking part in a solemn ceremony on the Island of Iwo Jima during the 64th anniversary of the battle in March of 2009, was taken by my husband Michael.
We share it with you all today as a symbol of the gratitude we all feel for American service men and women past and present. And we gratefully acknowledge their contributions on behalf of us all this Veteran's Day.

Iwo Jima 2
In this photo: Michael (center), son Ryan (left) and son-in-law Pete (right) near the spot where a contingent of five Marines and one Naval Corpsman raised an American flag on Mt. Suribachi during the battle. An iconic photo of the flag raising was taken by AP photographer Joe Rosenthal. It won a Pulitzer Prize and is considered to be the most widely-recognized photo of the war. — with Ryan Brown.
